Small bridges lead across the river to the Kumbasari Traditional Market where handicrafts, leather, textiles and souvenirs can be bought. The market is located in downtown Denpasar’s economy center, which is approximately a 30 minutes drive from the airport. Right across you will find the Badung River and Badung Market.

Kumbasari Market is housed in a concrete four-storey building with over 200 kiosks and 1,000 stalls. Many small traders also peddle cheap batik clothing and sarongs, jewelry, silverware, and some merchants will also claim to sell antiques. In the past, Pasar Kumbasari was popular as peken payuk — peken means market in the Balinese language, while payuk means household utensils.
Denpasar mayoralty has declared Pasar Kumbasari as a heritage site. Like the Badung Market, Kumbasari is one of the island’s oldest, open since the late ‘70s. The market is also very close to the historical Tukad Badung River, Bali Museum, Pura Jagatnatha temple, all of which are located within walking distance.
The best part of shopping at the Kumbasari Market is one can get cheaper prices for the same products sold at the more opulent shops out in the city. By night, some parts of the market open up with food stalls, making it a good spot for enjoying a local, budget-friendly dinner. The entrance to the market is free. Opening hours are daily from 9 to 5pm.
