
Pedawa: a Unique Ancient Village in Bali

PEDAWA Village is one of the ancient villages are commonly known as "Bali Aga" in Bali. Pedawa is located in the Sub-district of Banjar, Buleleng Regency. It is about an hour drive from the capital town of Singaraja or only about 30 minutes driving from Bali's twin lakes: Buyan and Tamblingan.
Tourists staying in southern regions of Bali are better driving through these lakes as it is much faster. For tourists staying in Lovina area are recommended to go through Banjar Sub-district, just go straight forward from Banjar Hot Spring Water.
Pedawa is located on a hill surrounded by valleys and hills which makes this village very amazing. Tourists will be amazed by the beautiful scenery along the way to Pedawa village both accessed from Singaraja - the capital town of Buleleng and also from the Twin Lakes: Buyan and Tamblingan lakes.
Pedawa traditional village is inhabited by about 5,610 people based on the national population census in 2016.
Why Pedawa is unique?
According to the hereditary story among the people of Pedawa, once the bodies of the Pedawa people are not buried, but only placed under the wooden tree, the following the burial (the provisions of the grave) and the hibiscus flowers, while children who died The body was thrown into a large wooden pit located near the village.
One day, a king named Bima King was led by the priest or Dukuh Manca Bila to define the burial order of the body, including the completeness of a simple ceremony.
From this moment, the body of people who died buried should and be very simple, in the procession of the equipment ceremony is necessary also Tirta / holy water.
Thus, Pedawa can actually be recognised as a cultural tourism village that serves culture as the core attractions, in addition to the amazing view of the hills and valleys around the village.
Pedawa as a Tourism Village
The regional government of Buleleng has designated Pedawa Traditional Village as one of the Tourism Village termed as "Desa Wisata" in Buleleng Regency. The designation is aimed at increasing the number of tourism object in Buleleng and also introduce the uniqueness of the village world widely while bringing prosperity for the local people of Pedawa villagers.

This is a traditional Balinese House which specifically built from bamboo: the roof, the wall and furniture. It is very natural and safe. Tourists can spend a night or two in this bamboo house without using an air conditioner as the place is very cool due to its location up the hill. Birds are singing and tree branches are swinging with the breeze of the spoil wind.

Pedawa Tower
The tower of Pedawa allows tourists to view neighbouring villages such as Gobleg, Banyuatis, Kayu Putih, Gesing villages from a long distance. It is developed behind the traditional house where tourists can learn how the local people live there. All material of this tower made of bamboo which took from the local hills. It is accommodated about 10 people for one around.

Traditional kitchen called "Paon" where food is prepared and cooked using wooden fire and using traditional kitchen utensils.

Coffee Plantation in Pedawa
Coffee is one of the well-known agricultural products in Pedawa, Buleleng regency. It has a large area of the plantation where coffee plants grow fertility. The coffee is traditionally processed and thus it tastes very nice and delicious.

Palm Sugar Production in Pedawa
Pedawa Village is also weel-known as the central of pal sugar production which is traditionally processed by the local farmers or villager. This sugar is usually served with coffee as a sweetener. Most people in Bali buy Padawa Sugar for their needs especially for making Balinese cakes served for offerings during the temple festivals or other rituals.
